In Memoriam: D. James Kennedy (1930-2007)
Kennedy was the author of Evangelism Explosion, which was taught to me as part of our required Personal Evangelism class at Southern Seminary. His zeal for the lost was greatly apparent through this work. His zeal for believers was also revealed through his writings and sermons. His sermons at Coral Ridge can still be viewed on TV. I usually watch him before I leave for church each Sunday. He has helped me to get in a right mindset before going out to do the Lord’s work.
I cannot help but feel a bit of “holy jealousy” for our departed brother. He is absent in body, but is now present with the Lord. Oh, to be where he is! To see what he sees! To feel what he feels! For he is nowhere else but at the feet of Jesus, seeing the glory of the Lord, overwhelmed with gratitude, love, and praise for the King.
But then again, Pastor Tim always says not to be jealous, but to declare others “blessed.” And I sure can do that happily and joyfully. D. James Kennedy has finally received the greatest blessing of all, the Lord’s declaration: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
